The University of Florida: Home of the Florida Gators
University of Florida is a public institution with over 50,000 students and 300,000 alumni all over the world. The University of Florida is in a suburban area, and a small city roughly 95,000 people. The University of Florida is one of the 62 elected members of the Association of American Universities. It is one of only 17 public, land-grant universities that belongs to the Association of American Universities. The University of Florida is home of the Florida Gators and hosts 16 colleges: Agricultural and Life Sciences, Business Administration, Design, Construction, and Planning, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Health and Human Performance, Journalism and Communications, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine and more than 150 research centers and institutes. UF tuition is currently around $15,000 annually, it includes board, books, and other fees. UF has ranked 167 of the Best Schools in the U.S. by Forbes in 2008. In athletics, UP has ranked as one of the Top 10 Best Athletic programs in the nation in the last 20 years. The University of Florida put Gainesville on the map when in the 1860s under the name of East Florida Seminary it relocated from Ocala to Gainesville. The University of Florida has made the City of Gainesville the heart of North Central Florida by consistently bringing in students and tourism for higher education and the arts. UF offers a vast array of clubs, activities, sports, and minority programs so every student will find something to better equip them for the real world and college life as well. In addition, the University of Florida provides numerous ways to earn degrees so there is a lot of flexibility. The University of Florida is responsible for nearly $6 billion annually to Florida's economy and is responsible for nearly 75,000 jobs. The University of Florida has many affiliations with the local government, commercial companies, medical organizations, and transportation services. To illustrate this Shands is no longer Shands and AGH, is UF and Shands (the science of hope) and have formed an alliance with the RTS. UF again and again attracts world-class concerto orchestras, opera and large-scale ballet performances, and Broadway plays. Among UF's artistic centers of learning are housed a permanent collection of more than 6,000 original works, two television stations and four radio stations, and the chief natural history museum in the Southeast, musical and theatrical centers. Research awards have increased over the years to last year's all time high of $518.8 million, situating the University of Florida among the nation's leading centers of learning. More than $270 million of that total was for health-related inquires, in lieu of a significant portion of the state's academic and monetary dedication to biotechnology. The University of Florida is prestigious as well as beneficent in all areas of learning. The University of Florida is the fourth largest campus in campus area and is and hopefully will remain the home of and to a 2,000-acre institution and more than 900 buildings this includes 170 with classrooms and laboratories. The northeast corner of campus houses the Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. The UF residence halls have a total capacity of some 7,000 students and the five family housing villages house more than 2,200 married and graduate students.
